My husband and I had the absolute worst experience with Kate McCullough Photography for our wedding photos. Her response time to get back to us with questions and updates was continually bad throughout our whole experience.

I had been communicating with her for months about the schedule of our wedding day and different details for the photographer. The Wednesday of our wedding week, I was informed in an email she would not be taking our photos, and instead another couple would be. She did not ask if this would be okay ever. Instead, I was told. Never ever once was this mentioned in all our our prior communications or explain why she would not be photographing our wedding. I chose her to do our wedding photos because I liked HER work, not some other photographer.

As any bride would be, I was extremely stressed out the week of our wedding. and instead of arguing, I let it go and tried to be okay with it with everything else I had going on. Her bad communication continued, and I finally got the phone number for our photographers for our wedding day at my rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.

In our photography contract, it stated, “Kate McCullough Photography will reserve the time and date agreed upon, and will not make other reservations for that time and date.” The day of our wedding, Kate went to California to shoot another wedding. I know this because she posted about it on her Facebook page. She did make other reservations and violated the contract.

Additionally, it also said only she was unable to perform due to illness, emergency, etc, she would find a suitable replacement of “comparable quality and professionalism.”

Our photographers were a nice couple, but it was clear Kate did not convey any of the information about our wedding we had discussed in our email conversations with them. The entire day, their lack of experience showed, and were not of comparable quality of professionalism. They didn’t provide direction for the photos like experienced wedding photographers should, and it showed in the photos. As the bride and groom, I should not have had to worry about making sure they were taking photos of us, THE BRIDE AND GROOM.

When we finally received our wedding photos back, almost 3 months after our wedding, there were hardly any photos of my husband and I in the 800 photos we received. Additionally, Kate admitted in an email after my inquiry the exposure for the cameras were off which is why almost all of our outdoor photos (the majority of them) turned out overexposed and washed out. It was a cloudy day, perfect for outdoor photography. She told me she would have our photos sent to a professional company to be retouched and saved, but this never happened.

Needless to say, I was absolutely heartbroken over the results of our photos. These are photos we will never be able to get back.

Kate continually ignored my emails and phone calls because she was not getting back to me about the edits we were expecting. My husband also tried calling and those calls were ignored. After letting her know we were going to seek legal action, for contract violation, she offered a refund for only $500, while the contract said we should have been refunded in full.

If you have booked Kate already, be clear she is the one doing your wedding photos or if you are shopping around for a wedding photographer, I DO NOT RECOMMEND KATE MCCULLOUGH PHOTOGRAPHY. Be thorough with your questions for who you do decide to hire.
